Children and their families can brighten up their winter with a reading of Nancy Luenn’s “Celebrations of Light,” learning about winter festivities from around the world, followed by a tour of the many sources of light — stained glass included — in the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. Participants then join a workshop to learn about rolling beeswax candles, cutting Chinese and Taiwanese paper lanterns, and sculpting clay candelabras inspired by Hindu floating lamps, Jewish menorahs, and Kwanzaa kinaras. Recommended for children ages four to eight years old. Space is limited so advance purchase of tickets — $10 per child, with an accompanying adult — is recommended at web.ovationtix.com/trs/pe/10038298. 1047 Amsterdam Ave. at 112th St. Dec. 12, 10 a.m.-noon.
