On Thursday morning, local elected officials joined the Sixth Police Precinct in a tribute to the fallen police officers of 9/11. There was a reading of the names of the 23 police officers who died in the attacks, including P.O. James Leahy, a member of the precinct; and Det. Claude “Danny” Richardson, a member of the city’s Bomb Squad, which is also housed in the stationhouse. The event occurred outside the precinct on W. 10th St. Among the speakers were Deputy Inspector Kevin Fitzgerald, the precinct’s commanding officer; state Senator Tom Duane; Assemblymember Deborah Glick and Councilmember Christine Quinn. There was an invocation and a woman sang the “Star Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful.” Several dozen local residents turned out to observe the ceremony. “It was just very moving,” said Glick. “It was just a memory of people in the emergency services personnel who were just doing their jobs.”
