Taste and Harvest to fill squares with delicious fare in BID affairs

The Village Alliance business improvement district will host the fifth annual Taste of the Village benefit for Washington Square Park from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tues., Sept. 18, in the park plaza, with international samplings from 15 Greenwich Village restaurants.

The restaurants offering signature dishes include Blue Hill, North Square, Otto Enoteca Pizzeria, Sushi Samba 7, Café Spice, La Palapa Cocina Mexicana, Cafetasia, EN Japanese Brasserie, 8th Street Winecellar, Jack’s Bistro, Knickerbocker Bar and Grill, Eva’s Restaurant, Crumbs, Le Pain Quotidien and Camaje Bistro & Lounge.

Beverages will come from IS-Wine, Anthony Road Wine, Brooklyn Brewery, Gizzi’s Coffee and Fizzy Lizzy. For tickets in advance, phone the Village Alliance, 212-777-2137. Tickets, $40 in cash or check only, will also be available the day of the event.

The 12th annual Harvest in the Square will take place 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thurs., Sept 20, in Union Square Park’s north plaza with offerings from 50 restaurants, nine beverage firms and 15 wineries, plus special exhibits.

Chefs from the participating restaurants, including Starchefs.com’s 2007 Rising Stars Michael Anthony of Gramercy Tavern and Masato Shimizu of 15 East, will prepare signature dishes with farm fresh produce from Union Square’s Greenmarket.

Proceeds from the event, sponsored by the Union Square Partnership, will benefit the Partnership’s continuing park maintenance and beautification efforts.

Advance tickets from Telecharge.com are $115, and $125 at the 17th St. entrance to the north plaza on the event day. A limited number of Friends of Union Square Park V.I.P. tickets for early 6 p.m. admission are available at $400 by phone at 212-460-1208.
