P.S. 41 students were joined by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Borough President Scott Stringer Tuesday morning for the unveiling event for the Greenwich Village school’s Greenroof Environmental Literacy Laboratory, or GELL, project. GELL’s 15,000-square-foot observational learning environment will be one of the largest green roofs at a New York City public school. P.S. 41, on W. 11th St. at Sixth Ave., will incorporate the green-space learning facility into its lesson plans, offering hands-on educational opportunities in farm-to-table agriculture, urban sustainability and environmental stewardship. It will also serve as a prototype educational facility designed to enhance science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. Construction will start this spring.
