ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE IN EFFECT ALL WEEK
‘Tis the season for nor’easters, sleet, snow, and rain, which means increases in potential hazards for pedestrians and drivers alike. Pedestrians will be darting across streets to get out of the cold, and not everyone will be crossing safely.
Very high on the crash list is Canal St., especially for those crashes involving trucks and pedestrians. Use caution and remember Transit Sam’s rule, “Don’t cross in front of a truck until you see the whites of the trucker’s eyes!”
Thursday and Friday are official NYC Gridlock Alert Days, where roads all over the city will be jammed, especially Canal St. near the Manhattan Bridge and Holland Tunnel. The remaining Gridlock Alert days are December 17th, 18th, and 19th. On these days, the city (and Transit Sam!) advises you to help reduce road congestion by taking mass transit.
The Giants take on Washington 1 p.m. Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Fan traffic will make for slowdowns before and after the game in the Lincoln Tunnel, sending more drivers down to the Holland.
Remember: Tolls on the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the George Washington, Bayonne & Goethals bridges, and the Outerbridge Crossing just went up. E-ZPass rates increased $0.75, bringing peak tolls to $11.75 and off-peak to $9.75. The cash rate is now $14.
On West St./Route 9A, one southbound lane will close between Vesey and West Thames Sts. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
One New York bound and one New Jersey bound lane of the Holland Tunnel will close 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.
