A woman in Brooklyn clings to life on Sunday after she was mowed down by an MTA bus driver, authorities said.
According to police sources, a 23-year-old woman was departing from a westbound B41 bus on Nevins and Livingston Streets in Downtown Brooklyn, in the 84th Precinct‘s confines, at around 12:18 p.m. on May 5 when tragedy struck.
Sources said the commuter apparently crossed in front of the bus just as a second B41 approached from behind, striking her as the driver pulled the rig in.
The victim apparently suffered severe injuries to the head and body and was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where police reported her as being in critical condition.
The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is now looking into the causes of the collision. Items of clothing could be observed still under the vehicle as police hurried about the scene.
A local resident who identified himself as Mike said the area had been bustling since a string of bus re-routings.
“I think it was like near the end of last summer, this whole street got rerouted for the most part. This whole street used to be a two-lane street, is like to ways on this side only,” Mike said, stating the area gets pretty busy. “Because this is now a major bus line and the construction over here kind of adds to it.”
