Police in the Bronx are searching for two brazen vandals who allegedly smashed the doors of a 4 train during a subway mischief spree in broad daylight in February.
The incident, which occurred within the 52nd Precinct and Transit District 11, unfolded shortly after the suspects boarded a northbound 4 train at the Jerome and Bainbridge Avenues station at around 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22.
According to law enforcement sources, the perps went on their demolition spree, shattering the glass windows of doors from inside multiple train cars.
Police could not yet confirm what the suspects used to break the glass. However, a photo taken by surveillance cameras inside the railcar shows what appears to be a slab of plywood lying on the floor.
According to police officials, they then fled the scene on foot to parts unknown.
It is unclear if any passengers were inside the train at the time, but police said there were no reported injuries.
Police on May 6 released surveillance photos of the suspects taken from cameras located inside the train. One suspect is described as a male, approximately 15 to 16 years old, last seen wearing a black jacket, black sweatpants, blue facemask, and a backpack.
The other suspect, also a male of the same age, was last seen wearing a black jacket, black-framed glasses, and a backpack.
No arrests have been made so far, but the investigation remains ongoing.
