Minor 9 Downtown Soccer League teams Aberdeen and Motherwell played an exciting game under the lights last Thursday evening at the Battery Park City fields. Motherwell welcomed new teammate Sarah Pangburn with a goal early in the first half by Ali Rossi, assisted by Taylor Sandella. Aberdeen left only three on defense late in the second half as players made an all-out rush for the goal, letting only one ball by Motherwell’s defensive players Casper Henak, Brian Boyd and Michael Martorana. A consistent effort by Aberdeen’s goalkeepers kept the contest tight into the last minutes of the game, Motherwell’s Jake Shapiro and Jake Miller scored two final goals.
Although no matches were scheduled this weekend in observance of Rosh Hashana, players in the Downtown Soccer League played scrimmages over the weekend.
