A man was stabbed to death near a Brooklyn playground on Sunday morning — and a person of interest is now being questioned, police and eyewitnesses said.
Police sources said the bloodshed occurred outside of 159 Troutman St. in Bushwick at around 10:04 a.m. on April 27. The killing happened near Fermi Playground, where young children played on swingsets Sunday as a crime scene unfolded near them.
According to law enforcement sources, officers from the 83rd Precinct responded to the location after receiving a 911 call about the incident. Upon arriving, they found an unconscious and unresponsive 52-year-old man with a stab wound to the abdomen.
Police believe the man had been attacked after an argument with an unidentified foe.
“I heard they got into an argument and started going at it,” a nearby store worker said.
EMS rushed the victim to Kings County Hospital, where he could not be saved and was pronounced dead. The NYPD has not yet released the victim’s identity.
Another man who was selling clothing on the street corner said he saw the assault and described the murder weapon as looking like a screwdriver. However, a knife was spotted lying in the gutter nearby.
Police reported that a 43-year-old man was taken into custody; charges against the individual are pending the result of the investigation.
The 83rd Precinct had four murders year-to-date through April 20, according to the most recent CompStat report; there were none at the same point in 2024.
