New York Islanders star center Bo Horvat suffered a lower-body injury while playing with Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Championships and will miss the remainder of the tournament.

Per the Islanders, he is headed back to Long Island to consult with team doctors and ultimately discover the severity of the injury.

The 30-year-old sustained the injury during Canada’s 2-1 shootout loss to Finland in Group A play. He logged just 11:28 of ice time before missing the entire third period.

In six games with Team Canada, Horvat recorded four goals and four assists (eight points) and was a vital cog in their power play, exhibiting what he can do with a prominent supporting cast around him.

The 2024-25 season was a challenging one for Horvat, who led the Islanders with 28 goals. However, it was his fewest in a single season since the 2020-21 campaign. He scored 33 goals in his first full season in New York after being acquired from the Vancouver Cancucks midway through the 2022-23 season.

Considering where the team is in the early portions of their offseason, anything non-serious should not impact Horvat’s availability for training camp come September. However, injuries have been prevalent within the franchise over the last year.

His first-linemates, Mathew Barzal and Anthony Duclair, were sidelined for significant portions of the season — their absences one of the many hurdles the Islanders failed to clear while missing the playoffs for the second time in the last four years.

It ultimately resulted in the parting of ways with Lou Lamoriello, as the president of hockey operations and general manager did not have his contract renewed. An incoming regime could signal significant changes within the organization, and such a possibility has prompted chatter about Horvat potentially being dealt as he entered the third year of an eight-year contract.
