Quarterback Russell Wilson, defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, linebackers Brian Burns and Bobby Okereke, and wide receiver Darius Slayton were named the New York Giants’ 2025 team captains, head coach Brian Daboll confirmed on Thursday.

Wilson is gearing up for his first season with Big Blue after signing a one-year deal to take over as the starting quarterback. The 10-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks entered camp already knowing he would be the Giants’ No. 1 quarterback to start the season, which gives him an opportunity to prove that he is still a top arm at 36.

How long he can hold that mantle, obviously, remains to be seen. Rookie Jaxson Dart, whom the Giants drafted No. 25 overall in April, is riding high after a brilliant preseason showing. He could potentially usurp Jameis Winston for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.

Lawrence remains the anchor of the Giants’ defense and is considered one of the best interior defensive linemen in the game. He’s going to have even more help on the outside, as Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and No. 3 overall pick Abdul Carter are poised to create one of the more imposing pass rushes in all of football.

Okereke, now in his third season with the Giants, has been a tackling machine since his arrival. Even with an injury-shortened campaign last season, he averaged nearly eight tackles per game.

Slayton is the longest-tenured current Giant, entering Year 7 with the team. He provides a veteran presence to a younger wide receiver room and ranks in the top 20 in both receptions and receiving yards in team history.
