The NFL Draft is on Thursday, and the New York Jets have been tight-lipped for the first time maybe ever. Out of the teams in the top 10, nobody knows which direction Gang Green will go in with the seventh-overall pick.
New York has been linked heavily to Penn State tight end Tyler Warren. Warren met with the Jets as one of his top-30 visits, as he’s set to be the first tight end taken off the board during the selection process.
It was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that there are certain members of their organization who are said to be enamored with the player many consider to be the top tight end in this class.
Warren put together a stellar senior season, catching 104 passes for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns. The 22-year-old plays a huge role in the run game as one of, if not the best, blocking tight ends in the class.
In addition to a tight end, the right tackle spot is right up there and at the top of the list of needs for the Jets. Armand Membou would solidify a Jets’ offensive line that hasn’t been completely put together since the team’s back-to-back AFC Championship runs in 2009 and 2010.
Schefter also mentioned that Membou will likely be a top-10 pick, with the Jets and Las Vegas Raiders being the destination for the Missouri product. Membou played every college snap at right tackle, making him a plug-and-play starter for the green and white.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and his offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand both come from Detroit, where the Lions had one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. They know firsthand that the offense runs through the trenches.
For a 2025 Jets team that will look different to many, switching to a potential run-heavy attack with a mobile quarterback under center and a dynamic backfield with Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis.
According to Schefter, a third player linked to New York is Texas defensive back Jahdae Barron. The Swiss Army knife can line up deep at safety, on the outside or in the slot, in the box as a linebacker, or screaming off the edge as a pass rusher.
He would offer a Brian Branch-like style of play, someone Glenn coached in Detroit. Cornerback has been a need since D.J. Reed left in free agency to play for the Lions. New York signed Brandon Stephens to replace Reed, but with his ability to play some safety, the Jets can use Barron and Stephens interchangeably.
“If the Jets target the other side of the ball, some people around the league believe Glenn could target a cornerback, with Texas’s Jahdae Barron as an option,” per Schefter. “Glenn, of course, played cornerback for 15 seasons in the NFL.”
The Barron rumors could be something as simple as a smokescreen, considering how quiet the news from New York’s camp has been and the likelihood of Membou and/or Warren being available at No. 7.
April 24 might be a wild night.
