It’s a great time to be a fan of the New York Mets.

In January, the Mets organization redefined fan activation with the remarkably immersive Amazin’ Day at Citi Field. on Friday, they took it a step further with the opening of Mets House – the club’s first-ever pop-up experience – in the heart of Union Square.

“As a lifelong Mets fan, I am thrilled to welcome Mets House to Union Square today,” said Julie Stein, Executive Director of Union Square Partnership, at the pop-up’s ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday morning. “New Yorkers are looking for unique and immersive experiences, Mets fans are looking for a new way to engage with the organization and the players, and we are so excited to host you here. On behalf of the neighborhood and the community, we say to the Mets organization, Mr. and Mrs. Met, all the players and the fans, welcome to Union Square.”

Hundreds of passionate fans donned their orange and blue gear on Friday morning, gathering around 1 Union Square West for the Mets House grand opening. As soon as the ribbon was cut, the crowd erupted in chants of “Let’s go, Mets!” as Mr. and Mrs. Met led them into the store.

Mets President of Business Operations, M. Scott Havens, spoke with amNewYork during the grand opening on Friday morning. There, he emphasized that Mets House is an unprecedented fan experience that will offer exclusive merchandise, themed activities, special giveaways, regular season ticket deals, and guest appearances – fans on Friday got to  meet Doc Gooden and Todd Zeile. And on top of all that, it’s going to change on a weekly basis.

“We’re couching and defining this as an evolving experience,” Havens told amNewYork. “There will be all kinds of programming which will vary from week to week, and that’s what’s important. If you come today and enjoy it, come back next week, and you’ll see something different.”

The Flushing faithful have a lot to look forward to heading into the 2025 season. Not only is the club fresh off a miraculous run to their first NLCS since 2015, but they’re riding the momentum of a storybook offseason. They signed generational outfielder Juan Soto to a record-setting 15-year pact while reuniting with homegrown superstar Pete Alonso. According to Havens, “enthusiasm is about as high as it gets,” and the franchise aims to continue fostering the fan excitement with Mets House.

“Over the next few months, we’re going to have some great moments,” he said. “We’ve got Doc Gooden and Todd Zeile here today. I’m sure we’ll have other alumni, and hopefully, some players will stop by. We’ll do some live tapings of a podcast, have notable people, do some card breaks, and lots of activations from our brand partners as well. You have to stop by to see what’s up next because it’ll change from week to week.”
