QUEENS, NY — The Mets are bringing back veteran outfielder Travis Jankowski, signing him to a minor-league deal on Tuesday. He will report to Triple-A Syracuse to provide further outfield depth.
The 33-year-old journeyman played 43 games with the 101-win Mets in 2022, which was just one of eight stops during his 11-year MLB career.
Jankowski began the 2025 season with the Chicago White Sox before being purchased by the Tampa Bay Rays in late April. He batted .244 with a .575 OPS, two RBI, and two stolen bases in 21 games.
Known more for his steady glove, the Stony Brook alumnus is capable of playing all three outfield positions, which jives with the versatility that president of baseball operations David Stearns stresses.
With center fielder Jose Siri having been on the IL with a broken leg since April, New York has been leaning heavily on Tyrone Taylor for center-field reps. Jeff McNeil and Luisangel Acuna, natural infielders, have seen time in the interim, along with starting left-fielder Brandon Nimmo, and Jose Azocar, who recently joined the Atlanta Braves.
Jaknowski provides some additional insurance in center if needed.
