Service on five subway lines has resumed after an “intermittent power problem” in Manhattan caused problems during the peak evening commute, according to the MTA.
The power loss affected the MTA’s signal system between 59th Street-Columbus Circle and 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal starting around 3:39 p.m., the agency tweeted.
MTA crews had set up generators at their facilities on 42nd and 50th streets to help mitigate the loss of power, but it was still several hours before service on the A, C, E, B and D trains was restored.
Service was restored on all five lines around 6:20 p.m., per the MTA.
The disruptions followed a particularly wet morning commute that caused water to cascade down the stairs leading to the 1 train station at 145th Street and Broadway in Manhattan.
