Global Citizen’s annual festival will return to Central Park’s Great Lawn on Sept. 27, bringing together world-class artists and global changemakers for a day full of live performances and activism focused on ending extreme poverty.
Here’s what you need to know about this year’s festival:
What is Global Citizen Festival and why is it important?
Global Citizen Fest is much more than a star-studded concert in Central Park. It’s a movement to mobilize the public and initiate real change. This year’s festival is focused on three main goals: providing energy for 1 million people across Africa, mobilizing $200 million to protect 30 million hectares of the Amazon Rainforest, and partnering with FIFA to provide access to education for 30,000 children around the world.
When and where is Global Citizen Festival?
The festival will make its return to the Great Lawn in Central Park. Gates open at 2 p.m. and the show starts at 4 p.m. Entry closes at 9 p.m. Those with General Admission tickets can enter through two gates, either the West Gate Entrance on 72nd St at Central Park W or the East Gate Entrance on 72nd at 5th Ave.
Who is headlining?
This year’s festival is headlined by Shakira, Cardi B, Tyla, Arya Starr, Mariah the Scientist and Camilo. For the second consecutive year and his 11th time as a Global Citizen Ambassador, Hugh Jackman will host the event. The Weeknd was originally set to headline, but dropped out due to personal reasons. Cardi B will be taking his place.
Who else will be making appearances?
Global Citizen will have presentations from guest speakers including Kristen Bell, Adam Lambert, Bill Nye, Tony Goldwyn, Danai Gurira, Liza Koshy, Laurie Henderson, Nate Burleson, Fran Katsoudas and Vladimir Duthiers.
How do I get tickets?
You can try your chance at earning tickets for free by taking action in the Global Citizen app, which is how most people attend. Within the app, users can sign various petitions, leave messages, and take quizzes on different social issues to earn points. Once you reach 60 points, you’re entered to win a pair of tickets. The more points you earn, the more entries you have to win.
Fans can also go the traditional route and buy tickets, with options of General Admission (starting at $120), Global VIP (starting at $250), Premium VIP (starting at $350) and Ultimate VIP (starting at $2,500).
