‘Hamilton’ creator Lin-Manuel Miranda awarded 2016 Pulitzer Prize for drama

“Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda can officially add “Pulitzer Prize winner” to his resume.

On Monday, Miranda was awarded the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for drama for “Hamilton,” his much buzzed-about hip-hop Broadway musical, which is based on Ron Chernow’s 2004 book about New Yorker Alexander Hamilton.

Miranda took to Twitter after the news broke, tweeting “#YayHamlet” and “Grateful grateful grateful grateful grateful grateful grateful grateful grateful grateful grateful grateful grateful grateful great full.”

“Hamilton” started playing on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in August 2015 after a six-month Off-Broadway run. It won a Grammy for best musical theater album in February.
