Jennifer Hudson, leading the cast of the Broadway musical “The Color Purple,” paid tribute to the musician Prince at the show’s Thursday performance.
“Today we lost a legend,” she said to the audience. “We would like you all to join us in honoring Prince.” The music icon was found dead Thursday morning at his estate outside Minneapolis.
Then with the help of cast members, Hudson led the audience in a rendition of “Purple Rain.” The audience waved their arms in the air, at times clapping and cheering. The cast drew their arms around one another at the end of the song and some kissed their hands, motioning to the sky above.
