Former “Saturday Night Live” star Taran Killam will make his Broadway debut in “Hamilton.” The producers of the Tony Award-winning best musical said Wednesday that Killam, 34, would play the comic-relief role of King George beginning Jan. 17.
“So excited and proud to continue my tradition of only doing shows #PEOTUS dislikes,” the comedian tweeted in reference to president-elect Donald Trump.
The character, an audience-favorite scene-stealer though he appears for only nine minutes throughout the play, was originated by Brian d’Arcy James Off-Broadway, with Jonathan Groff originating the Broadway role in July 2015. Andrew Rannells (“Girls”) played the role for a month that fall while Groff shot a film, and in April 2016, Rory O’Malley followed Groff’s return. O’Malley’s last performance is Jan. 15.
The producers also announced additional replacement cast members, with Alysha Deslorieux beginning as Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds on Friday.
