Detectives apprehended the alleged antisemitic bigot who assaulted a Jewish woman earlier this month at a Midtown subway station, police reported Tuesday.

Christopher D’Aguiar, 28, of Upper Manhattan stands accused of the heinous attack that took place at the 42nd Street-Lexington Avenue subway station at 11:30 p.m. According to police sources, a 29-year-old woman was waiting for the 7 train when D’Aguiar allegedly struck, punching her in the face.

When the dismayed victim asked why he had assaulted her, police said, D’Aguiar allegedly replied: “Because you are Jewish.”

D’Aguiar reportedly fled the scene, leaving the victim with minor injuries.

According to police, members from the Hate Crime Unit performed an extensive investigation that led to his capture on Oct. 24.

New York City has experienced an uptick in hate crimes the terrorist group Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7. The recent hate crimes have included the Queens assault of a man wearing a turban and a 16-year-old girl who had her hijab pulled in another subway assault.

D’Aguiar refused to answer questions about the despicable crime as detectives walked him out of the 7th Precinct in handcuffs, then led him into the back of a police vehicle — his eyes trained on the ground throughout the walk.

D’Aguiar is charged with assault as a hate crime, aggravated assault, and assault and harassment. Charges elevated to hate crime status come with additional penalties, such as increased jail time, if convicted.
