Detectives in the Bronx are searching for five individuals in connection with a shooting that injured a 20-year-old man during a dispute in a Fordham Heights apartment building earlier this week.
According to the NYPD, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Monday, May 5, inside 2065 Morris Ave., within the 46th Precinct.
Authorities said a verbal argument between two groups escalated into a physical altercation, during which two individuals pulled out firearms and opened fire. Police have yet to disclose what led to the altercation or how many shots were fired during the incident, though reports allege that the groups had been engaged in a drug deal.
EMS transported a 20-year-old man to Saint Barnabas Hospital after he was struck in the hip by one bullet during the exchange of gunfire. As of Friday morning, the wounded man’s condition was listed as stable.
Following the shooting, one of the suspects fled on foot northbound on Morris Ave. Four others fled in a black vehicle traveling in the same direction, police said.
The first suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion, last seen wearing a black jacket, gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and dark-colored sneakers. The second suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a heavy build and long braided hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket, dark pants, and light-colored sneakers, according to police.
Three additional individuals, all described as males, are also being sought in connection with the incident. Police did not provide additional descriptions for those men.
Surveillance images of two of the alleged suspects were released by the NYPD on Thursday as authorities seek the public’s help to identify them.
In the 46th Precinct, where the May 5 shooting took place, police have recorded nine shooting incidents so far this year – down from 11 during the same time frame in 2024. Citywide, however, shootings are up more than 10% year-to-date, with 71 incidents reported as of May 4, per the latest police department statistics.
