A huge fire erupted in a double-decker bus in a Brooklyn storage yard Monday morning, sending a plume of smoke high into the sky that could be seen for miles.
Fire officials say that when they arrived the double-decker tour bus, owner not immediately known except for an insignia for “Vector Advertising,” was “fully involved in flames.” An all-hands response by the FDNY at 10:45 a.m. brought in nearly 50 firefighters to extinguish the fire that had engulfed the entire bus.
Smoke could be seen all the way to Manhattan, and traffic on Second Avenue along the Gowanus was stopped by fire trucks blocking the roadway during the height of the fire.
No injuries were reported and officials say they have no idea how the fire started. Owners of the storage area at 52 Second Avenue were not immediately available for comment.
