Man dies of injuries after he was hit by a car while crossing the street in Brooklyn

A man died of his injuries on Thursday night after he was hit by a car while crossing a Brooklyn street.

According to police, at 7:05 p.m. on March 5, officers from the 68th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian struck on 4th Avenue at 101st Street. Upon their arrival, officers found 66-year-old Frank Decolvenaere lying in the roadway, unconscious and unresponsive, with severe head trauma.

An investigation found that a 19-year-old man was driving a 2011 Mercedes-Benz 350 sedan southbound in the right lane of 4th Avenue. As he approached the intersection at 101st Street, Decolvenaere began to cross 4th Avenue in a marked crosswalk against the pedestrian traffic signal. The vehicle then hit Decolvenaere and knocked him into the roadway, where he came to rest.

EMS declared Decolvenaere dead at the scene. The driver remained at the scene following the collision.

No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
