Bodega hangs on in hipsterland

Miguel Roldan works nights at the A.R.A. bodega on Stanton between Ludlow and Orchard Sts., next door to live music club Arlene’s Grocery, itself a former bodega back in the day when a Lower East Side block could support more than one. In a neighborhood that has seen tremendous change and become a nightlife zone, this mom-and-pop store remains. Roldan is studying at John Jay College and hopes to go into federal law enforcement.
