Book country goes pink

Pink Ink, the Queer Book Expo, took over the community room at the L.G.B.T. Center on W. 13th St. last Saturday for its second annual event. Modeled after book gatherings such as New York Is Book Country and Book Expo America, Pink Ink provides an opportunity for both readers and authors to meet, shop and socialize, all in the context of building support for lesbian and gay authors and increasing awareness of lesbian and gay literature and art books.

Photographer George Mott, who signed copies of his “Foro Italico,” was among those selling their books at the event. “Foro Italico” features a collection of Mott’s black-and-white and color images of the startlingly erotic and poetic statues commissioned by Mussolini for the 1944 Olympic Games, which were postponed by World War II. Mussolini’s fascism promoted the ideal of being in top physical condition.
