Burglary suspect caught on 12th St. roof

Sixth Precinct police apprehended a burglary suspect on the morning of Wed. Nov. 24 while investigating break-ins at six Village locations.

At the time of the arrest, the suspect, Jason Richmond, 20, of 301 E. 144th St., the Bronx, was on probation for an Oct. 1 burglary in the Village, according to Detective Mike Singer, Sixth Precinct community affairs officer.

Two officers, Robert Gitto and Michael McDougall, were canvassing the West Village in a radio car with a man who had seen a suspected Greenwich St. burglary. They spotted a suspect on the roof of a building on W. 12th St. at Eighth Ave. at about 9:55 a.m., Singer said.

The suspect was arrested as he was trying to escape through a basement, Singer said. An investigation later connected Richmond to six break-ins that day, Singer said.
