On March 2 around 9 a.m., a car jumped the curb on Washington Square North, careened off a planter, plowed through some flimsy, movable gates and struck the Washington Square Arch. There were reportedly no injuries. Cristina DeLuca, a Parks Department spokesperson, said, “The car did some slight damage to the northwest side of the arch. We have assessed the damage and will make the repair.” The cause of the accident was not immediately clear. The vehicle was not a Toyota, but a Jeep.
