Police have arrested and charged a man sought in connection with a fatal stabbing outside of a Harlem subway station, the NYPD said.
Julio Velazquez was arrested on Tuesday at his sister’s home in Philadelphia, according to police.
Velazquez is accused of stabbing Herbert Burgess, 53, of the Bronx, outside of the No. 2 and 3 train station at 116th Street and Lenox Avenue just before 9 p.m. on March 16, according to the NYPD.
Police said Burgess was selling MetroCard swipes to a woman when they got into an argument. Velazquez, who knew the woman, then got into an argument with Burgess, police said.
The two men took the argument outside and when Burgess returned to the subway station, he had been stabbed, police said.
Burgess then got on a southbound 2 train and was discovered unconscious at the 110th Street and Lenox Avenue stop, police said.
He was rushed to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.
Police said Velazquez is charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
