The 2010 Better Newspaper Contest, hosted by the New York Press Association, took place on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9 in Saratoga Springs, NY.
The Downtown Express won third place in Coverage of Elections and Politics; second place in Arts Photo; and second place in Best Small Space Ad.
Our sister paper, The Villager, won first place in Best News or Feature Series, Spot News Coverage and Spot News Photo; and second place in News Story and Coverage of Elections and Politics. The Villager also won second place in Spot News Photos and Arts Photo; third place in Picture Story, Photographic Excellence and Editorial Cartoon; and an honorable mention in Headline Writing and Sports Action Photo.
Our other sister paper, Gay City News, won first place in Advertising Excellence; and second place for Best News or Feature Series, Editorials and Best Use of Color; and third place for Crime, Police and Courts coverage.
Our third sister paper, Chelsea Now, one second place for Editorial Cartoon.
Community Media as a whole placed number five oveall in Group or Chain Newspapers.
