Jeff Galloway, former longtime Community Board 1 member and Battery Park City resident, has been sentenced to three months in jail and five years probation for tax fraud.
In June, Galloway, 61, pleaded guilty to criminal tax fraud in the third degree, which is a felony. He was sentenced on Wed., July 22 in criminal court at 100 Centre St. and was immediately taken into custody.
He is currently serving time at the Manhattan Detention Complex at 125 White St. and has the projected release date of Sept. 20, according to the N.Y.C. Department of Corrections website.
He paid approximately $600,000 in tax, interests and penalties. Galloway, who had been a partner at law firm Hughes Hubbard and Reed for over 30 years, was also disbarred.
In April 2012, investigators from the State Department of Taxation and Finance approached Galloway, who had failed to file personal income state tax returns between 2005 and 2010, he admitted as part of his plea.
According to prosecutors, Galloway was earning close to $1 million per year and told investigators that he had indeed filed, but entered the wrong Social Security number. He continued to lie about fraudulent tax returns he subsequently filed, according to the plea and court documents.
Galloway served on both the Battery Park City and Planning Committees and was a C.B. 1 member for 12 years. He was removed from the board after he pleaded guilty to the felony.
