At the ribbon cutting for St. Vincent’s Hospital’s new cardiac surgical care unit last week were, from left to right: Samuel Lang, M.D., chief of cardiothoracic surgery; Jane Connorton, president, St. Vincent’s Hospital Manhattan; Herbert Rubin, counsel to the Giambellis, owners of Giambelli restaurant, at 46 E. 50th St.; and, seated, Francesco and Mary Giambelli. The Giambellis gave $1 million to renovate space for the new facility, located on the third floor of St. Vincent’s Smith Building on W. 12th St. The 10-bed unit is for patients recovering from open-heart surgery; an advanced floor design puts nurses’ stations next to each patient’s room for better observation.
