Gouverneur Nursing Facility recently celebrated the start of the “Year of the Monkey.” In photos, clockwise from top: Bak Tak Wong, 90 years old, a Gouverneur Nursing Facility resident, and Rachel Wong, 4, from Chinatown Day Care Center, shook tambourines; Buddhist chaplain Chao Fan gave a New Year’s invocation; children, ages 4 and 5, from Chinatown Day Care Center at 35 Division St. showed their dance form; Yun Lam, 114, the oldest resident at Gouverneur Nursing Facility, offered a traditional Chinese lion a red envelope with money for good luck. In addition, John Liu of Queens, the City Council’s only Chinese member, stopped by, giving “high fives” to the daycare center kids; a new water fountain was presented; the facility’s resident centenarians were honored and there was a kung fu demonstration.
