Before his Lower Manhattan rebuilding speech last Thursday, Gov. George Pataki witnessed the return of the Heisman Trophy Downtown with two former winners of college football’s top prize, Nebraska’s Mike Rozier, center, who was named the best player in 1983, and Army’s Pete Dawkins who took home the trophy in 1958. To the right is Philip Schwalb founder and C.E.O. of the National Sports Museum. The museum will be located along Downtown’s Canyon of Heroes parade route at 25 Broadway when it opens in 2007 and begins hosting the trophy ceremony. The trophy used to be awarded near the museum site at the Downtown Athletic Club, but has been held in Midtown since 9/11.
