Hope to salvage historic ornaments

Hopes to save the 1840 rectory and the 1847 Church of St. Ann, at 110-124 E. 12th St., faded on Mon., March 28, when the developers who bought the property said demolition of the rectory would begin this week and the church facade and tower a short time later. Andrew Berman, head of the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, said the society has permission to salvage architectural details from the rectory.

“We’ve put out an emergency call to architectural salvagers who could get in there in the next few days to at least save these features,” he said. A carved wood door and a stone Greek-revival entrance pediment and an ornate wrought-iron gate in front of the property are available. Phone G.V.S.H.P. at 212-475-9585 or e-mail aberman@gvshp.org.
