Hopes to move Greenmarket to 7 W.T.C.

The World Trade Center Greenmarket may have found a new home. Facing eviction when the temporary PATH entrance at Church and Vesey Sts. is dismantled to make way for the construction of the permanent Calatrava station, the Greenmarket has been searching in earnest for a new locale.

Pending the support of Silverstein Properties, the Greenmarket, which runs of Tuesdays and Thursdays, will relocate to the plaza between 7 World Trade Center and the Church St. Post Office.

“We’ve been working on it for several months and ran into several brick walls,” Greenmarket Operations Manager Cathy Chambers told Community Board 1 on Monday. “Thank you so much for your support.”

The proposed location would have truck access for the market’s farmers and would likely draw customers from 7 W.T.C. and the PATH, whose temporary entrance will also be relocated to Vesey St. until the Calatrava station is completed. Chambers hopes to relocate the market this April.

The proposal has the support of C.B. 1 and the Port Authority, which owns the land, on the condition that Silverstein, which owns and operates 7 W.T.C., give the plan a green light. A Silverstein spokesperson declined to comment.
