‘I am Maloney, hear me roar’; Rep. pens a new book

Carolyn Maloney signed her new book at the LGBT Community Center on W. 13th St. last week. “Rumors of our Progress have been Greatly Exaggerated: Why Women’s Lives Aren’t Getting Any Easier — And How We Can Make Real Progress for Ourselves and Our Daughters” argues that it’s “a myth” that women have achieved equal status with men in American society. In the book, Maloney asks why women are still getting paid only slightly more than three-quarters of what men make. The congressmember also tackles the so-called maternal wall and discusses how to cross it. “Rumors of our Progress” outlines the eight goals that Maloney says must be achieved to establish America as the most woman-friendly nation in the world; tells the inspiring stories of well-known figures like Nancy Pelosi, Meryl Streep, Mia Hamm and others; informs readers about legislation in the works that will most impact women; and presents “take-action” guides showing women how they, too, can help make real progress for themselves and other women.
