It won’t be easy turning from Vesey

Another traffic change is coming to Battery Park City next weekend as part of the New York State Department of Transportation’s Route 9A project.

On Sat., Aug. 9, Vesey St. will be closed at West St. from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should use Chambers St., Warren St. or Murray St. to regain access to West St., North End Ave. and Battery Park City.

The Aug. 9 closure will also kick off a longer-term restriction: Starting Aug. 9, motorists will not be allowed to turn left in Battery Park City from eastbound Vesey St. onto northbound West St.

The left-turn ban will allow state D.O.T. to do underground utility work and roadway reconstruction for its Route 9A North Promenade project. The D.O.T. plans to lift the turning restriction by Nov. 25.

Also on Aug. 9, beginning at 5 a.m., state D.O.T. will start to shift the southbound lanes of West St. onto their permanent roadway between Chambers and Vesey Sts. Warren St. will simultaneously be reopened to its original traffic pattern. The shift will be completed by Mon., Aug. 11 at 5 a.m. This work will realign traffic patterns as part of the Route 9A project.
