The opening of the Jackie Robinson Museum has been delayed until 2011. The forthcoming interactive museum at Varick and Canal Sts. in Hudson Square is a project of the Jackie Robinson Memorial Foundation, which was founded by Rachel Robinson, wife of the Hall of Famer and former Brooklyn Dodger who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947. His courageous effort in the face of death threats set the stage for later civil rights advances including the integration of the U.S. military and public schools. The Robinson Foundation works to continue civil rights efforts synonymous with Robinson’s legacy.
