“Jane Jacobs Night” at Judson Church on Sept. 22 celebrated the life and times of the legendary Greenwich Village activist. Community activists from all over the city came to reminisce and read excerpts from Jacobs’s iconic book “The Death and Life of Great American Cities.” Hosted by Bill Talen (a.k.a. Reverend Billy), Green candidate for mayor, participants included former Councilmember Carol Greitzer, Philip Dipaolo of People’s Firehouse in Brooklyn, Cathryn Swan of Washington Square Park blog and Bob Holman of Bowery Poetry Club. Greitzer and Dipaolo both read letters they had received from Jacobs. After Greitzer spoke, she was embraced by Talen, above.
