Organized by the political group MoveOn, Downtowners by the baker’s dozen held Bake Sales for Democracy last Saturday at various locations to raise funds for John Kerry’s presidential campaign. Volunteers were organized to both bake and then sell the scrumptious items. Some called their sales Bake Back the White House — like the one above, in the East Village — while others dubbed them No CARB Bake Sales (“CARB” standing for Vice President Dick Cheney, Attorney General John Ashcroft, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and President George Bush). Being served up at the stands was such fare as “You better vote-meal cookies” and “cherry Kerry muffins.”
