List of Downtown Memorial Day Activities

This Friday, May 28, the Downtown Little League will host its 3rd annual home run derby in the Battery Park City Ballfields. Approximately 35 sluggers, ages 10 to 12 and primarily from the major league, will be trying to smack one out of the park. Parents, friends and family are invited to watch. The event will take place between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

On Saturday, May 29, spectators are welcome to watch major and minor league pick-up scrimmage games. At 10:30 a.m. the JMU (Junior Minor Upper) league, ages 8 to 9, will play in the Northfield while the JML (Junior Minor Lower) league, 7-year-olds, round up bases in the Southfield. At 1 p.m. the major league will face off in Northfield while the minors play in Southfield. There will be a pizza party for kids at 12:30 p.m.

At 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 30, the Big Apple Run For The Warriors will be held throughout the historic district of Lower Manhattan. There will be a 4-mile run and 1-mile run/walk. The event is raising money for Hope For The Warriors, a nonprofit organization that aids wounded service members, their families and families of the deceased. Interested racers can register at hopeforthewarriors.org and all are welcome to watch.

Between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 30, the Fulton Stall Market will sell goods on the South Street Seaport, including produce from farmers and an urban bazaar. There will also be a live concert on the Pier 17 stage.

From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 31, the Dexter Lake Club Band will hold a concert at the Pier 17 stage at the South Street Seaport.

At 3 p.m. on Monday, May 31, there will be a Chinatown Memorial Day Event held on Mott Street between Pell and Bayard Streets.
