Mayor Bloomberg recently signed legislation amending the city’s Administrative Code to create an Adopt-a-Park program. Among the bill’s numerous sponsors were Councilmembers Alan Gerson, Chris Quinn and Margarita Lopez.
“This legislation will provide a mechanism for individuals, community groups and businesses to offer direct financial assistance to a city park, playground, pool or recreational facility of their choosing,” the mayor said.
The revenue generated from park adoptions under this bill will be used to supplement the budget of the Department of Parks and Recreation for the maintenance and programming of its properties.
