There were no losers, and deservedly so, as the Rockies and Marlins battled to a well-played 6-6 tie to preserve undefeated weekends for both Greenwich Village Minor League teams. After the Rockies took an early 3-0 lead, Jake Israel’s bases-loaded walk and Martha Strautman’s two-run single evened up the score. Matthew Tuggle pitched a scoreless inning for the Marlins, striking out two, but an inning later the Rockies pulled ahead again, 6-3, as Joshua Cerritos and Glenn Parson each collected his second hit of the game. The Marlins had one more comeback left in them and tied the game at 6, before Paul Mounsey of the Marlins and Julian Matthews of the Rockies traded scoreless final innings to close out the game.
Earlier in the day, the Rockies defeated the Cubs 9-5, spurred on by Glenn Parson’s second home run of the season. Johnathan Freedberg was the winning pitcher, going three strong innings and striking out six before Xander Ryman came on in relief to shut down the Cubs. Andrew McLaughlin contributed his usual steady defense and reached base four times in the doubleheader.
The Marlins’ win was a 6-5 nailbiter over the Angels, as Luke Camery and Aidan Perret each doubled in a pair of runs and Jack Staffen, Sam Callis and Hannah Kliot starred in the field for the victors. Natalie Ullman hurled two scoreless innings for the Angels and the Marlins’ Zack Green set down the Angels in order, with two strikeouts, in his one inning on the mound. Will Maxwell-Lunney doubled and reached base three times, while Morgan Greeburger had two hits and two RBI for an Angels attack that came up just short.
