On November 6, The Museum of Jewish Heritage at 36 Battery Pl. will be opening the Keeping History Center, its first new permanent exhibition space since 2003. It will include digital and audio elements but no artifacts. Voices of Liberty, one component of the exhibit, features the voices of immigrants (Holocaust survivors who sought refuge in the U.S., Soviet refusenikswho came to the U.S. in the 1980s seeking religious freedom, and other individuals) responding to arriving in America for the first time.
The center also contains a virtual exploration of the museum’s Garden of Stones outdoor space.
The exhibition space was originally used for functions, meetings, and temporary exhibits.
“The center will encourage visitors to add their own voices, and ‘curate’ experiences for themselves based on their own curiosity, interests, and family history,” said Ivy Barsky, deputy director of the museum.
