A man is in custody following a shooting in Brooklyn, while two remain at large for their roles in separate Queens shootings.

Authorities say that at around 10:25 p.m. on Jan. 26, 31-year-old Denis Funes allegedly entered an apartment, located at 527 51st Street in Brooklyn, that housed his children and their mother, and was intoxicated. Funes then allegedly went into the closet and retrieved a .22 revolver from a blue bag and tried to leave.

When the children’s mother pleaded with him not to leave, Funes allegedly fired a round that struck the woman in the right ear. The same bullet struck Funes in the left hand and caused injuries to the woman’s neck. A spokesperson for the NYPD stated that the pair’s two children, aged 5 and 6, as well as a 10-year-old and 14-year-old child, were in the apartment at the time of the shooting.

Both the victim and Funes were taken to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn for treatment for their injuries. Funes was taken into custody and charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, harassment, menacing, and four counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child.

The NYPD is also investigating two separate shootings in Queens that left multiple people injured. It was reported to police that at 9:21 p.m. on Jan. 26, a witness saw a 26-year-old man, described as Black, exit a white sedan outside of 4540 Center Boulevard and approach the driver’s side window of a black jeep. After engaging in a brief conversation, a person in the jeep fired four gun shots, hitting the victim and causing him to fall to the ground.

The black jeep sped off southbound on Center Boulevard. Another man was seen pulling the victim into the white sedan, which also took off southbound down Center Boulevard — the victim was taken to Cornell Hospital with gunshot wounds to his left hand and right torso.

In a separate incident on Jan. 25, an unknown man shot multiple people outside a Mobil gas station located at 68-09 Queens Boulevard. At 10:05 p.m. the suspect fired multiple shots at the 25-year-old male victim, who was a backseat passenger in a white 2009 Honda Civic that was being operated at the location, and struck him in the upper back. The victim, who was in the car with two other 25-year-old men, was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.

One minute later, the same unidentified man fired shots at another vehicle at the location, a silver 2004 Ford Explorer, causing damage to the vehicle’s rear passenger window. The 55-year-old male driver of the Explorer was hit by the shattered glass and received a laceration to his head. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. The victim refused medical attention at the scene.

The suspect was seen at 10:31 p.m. in the lobby of the Queens Hotel, located at 65-15 Queens Boulevard, where he spoke to the receptionist and then fled the hotel. The NYPD released video of the suspect taken from the gas station and from the hotel lobby.

No arrests were made in either Queens shooting. The investigations remain ongoing.
