Majors – Astros vs. Rockies

The Downtown Little League Astros beat the Rockies Sunday with a final score of 18-4. JJ Franco led the Astros’ offense and hit a grand slam in the second inning. Luke Shapiro went 3 for 3, including a home run, and Mike Galindo went 2 for 2 with a home run. Sam Fishman, Jake Shapiro, Cal Cook, Wyatt Leach and Nikhil Tekchandani also got hits. Adriaan Tomkins had a picture-perfect bunt for a hit as well. Luke Shapiro pitched a strong game for the Astros, going four innings, striking out nine, and yielding only one hit and two walks. Shapiro’s brother, Jake, struck out two and snagged a line drive hit back to him for a 1,2,3 inning. Defensively, Astros catcher Lucas Frajndlich threw a runner out at home and Tim Rossi made some nice stops at third base. The Rockies got some nice hits in the sixth inning, including a rip by Ridley Younge to left field. Sean Wils was solid behind home plate for the Rockies.

Junior Minors – Twins vs. Indians

The Twins met the Indians this past weekend. Playing pitcher, catcher and first base, Natalie Ullman, Molly Maugeri and Veronica Chmiel made all the plays on defense. The Twins played great defense this week as well, especially Jack Hatton, Daniel Komanoff and Juwon Givens. Liam Gallagher’s extensive work practicing on batting tees, at the batting cages and with his coaches, led to him having his first two hits in Little League play.

Downtown Little League Coaches should e-mail game info Mondays to news@DowntownExpress.com.
