Homicide arrest

Police arrested William Davila, 42, of 54-64 Rutgers St. on Thurs., May 15, and charged him with stabbing his estranged wife to death on Tuesday night May 13.

The victim, Leonida Davila, 39, of the Bronx, was found dead, handcuffed and wrapped in a blanket in her husband’s black Suburban Chevrolet in the parking garage at 105 Essex St., near Delancey St. at 11:50 p.m., on May 13. She had stab wounds to her head, neck and torso, police said.

The couple had been living apart for some time, police said.

Prostitution arrests

Vice squad police arrested three men at 35 Market St. on Monday afternoon May 12 for offering a 16-year-old girl as a prostitute, according to the office of District Attorney Robert Morgenthau. The girl, whose name was not disclosed, was to be charged later.

The arrests came after an officer spoke on the phone with one defendant, Bei Jie Zheng, 48, who directed him to the Market St. address where the second defendant, Sheng Cong Li, 46, led him to a fifth floor apartment. A third defendant inside apartment 5C, Ying Yeung, 34, accepted $40 in payment and told the officer, “The girl is in the bathroom.” A short time later, the girl came out, agreed to have sexual intercourse and the officer called backup to arrest the suspects.

Subway snatcher

A man suspected in similar robberies Downtown snatched a bag from a woman, 24, at 9:30 a.m. Tues., May 20 on the platform of the Rector St. (1) subway station, jumped to the tracks where he tossed the bag after taking out the money and fled down the tracks to make his escape, police said.

The robber was described as 30-35 years old, 5’9” tall, medium build and wearing beige pants and a black jacket. A similar snatching occurred on Thurs., May 15 at the Spring St. station on the No. 6 line, one of four previous incidents that occurred south of 14th St. since the beginning of the year. However, police said on May 21 that they had not found that the incidents were linked to a single suspect.

Jab applicant

A man who said he was looking for a job asked an employee in front of Allegro Moving Systems, 263 West St. at Vestry St. for an application at 3:10 p.m. Fri., May 9 and then entered the building where he pulled a gun on a woman employee at a payroll window, picked up a wad of cash and fled on foot north on West St., police said. The robber, described as a black man, about 5’9” with a stocky build, got $1,480, police said.

Mugging arrests

The 15-year-old victim of a May 9 mugging at Jefferson and Henry Sts., when his portable PlayStation was taken, was making the complaint at the Seventh Precinct on Monday afternoon May 12 when he recognized his assailant being brought into the station after an arrest on Orchard and Canal Sts. The suspect, Samuel Page, 16, was charged with the May 9 robbery and with beating a man on Orchard and Canal Sts. on May 12 and taking the victim’s iPod.

Soho snatch

Police arrested Darren Medici, 18, of the Bronx at 7:30 p.m. Thurs., May 15 and charged him with snatching a cell phone and a BlackBerry from a woman, 27, as she was text messaging at the corner of Prince and Mercer Sts. Police said that while Medici was being arrested a box cutter fell to the ground. He was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest for pushing an arresting officer to the ground, according to a spokesperson for the district attorney.

Muggers take headphone

A 17-year-old Staten Island resident was walking on Sixth Ave. at Broome St. about 8:15 a.m. Wed., May 14 when four teenage boys approached and demanded his iPod, police said. The victim refused, put the iPod in his pocket and the four muggers punched him and reached into his pocket for the iPod. They were only able to grab the headphone and fled.

Duane St. burglaries

Burglars broke into two apartments at 178 Duane St. between Hudson and Greenwich Sts. on Wed., May 14, police said. The resident of one apartment told police she left her apartment at 7 p.m. Tues., May 13 and returned the next morning to find her front door damaged and jewelry and electronic equipment with a total value of $6,850 missing. A man who left another apartment in the building at 12:30 p.m. on May 14 returned at 7:30 p.m. and found that his front door was smashed and that $150 in cash and a diamond ring had been stolen, police said.

Tech thefts

A resident of 42 Hudson St., near Duane St., discovered at 3 p.m. Wed., May 14 that a burglar had entered her apartment while she was out and took a digital camera and a laptop computer with a total value if $2,000. Police said the apartment was accessible from a fire escape on the roof and the victim acknowledged that she left her door unlocked.

Booked on library crime

Police arrested a man and a woman on Elizabeth St. at Canal St. on Thurs., May 15 after a librarian at the Mulberry Street Library branch identified them as the pair who stole a library patron’s laptop computer on April 23. The suspects, Sid Henning, 24, and Nakekya Smith, 19, returned to the library at 10 Jersey St. between Lafayette and Mulberry Sts. where the librarian recognized them and called police. Library officials said a surveillance camera also recorded images of the suspects.

Bicycle thief

A man who locked his bicycle at a rack in front of the Embassy Suites Cinema in Battery Park City at 3:45 p.m. Sat., May 10 went to the movies and came out at 7:45 p.m. to find the chain and his lock clipped and his new custom-made racing bike valued at $5,000 gone, police said.

Battery assault

Police arrested Christina Cordero, 25, and charged her with assault for hitting a Brooklyn man, 33, over the head with a bottle at 9 a.m. Wed., May 14 in front of the Battery Maritime Building ferry terminal.

Handbag bagged

Employees of the Louis Vuitton store at 116 Greene St., who noticed that a bag valued at $1,240 was missing at 4:45 p.m. Wed., May 7 checked their surveillance camera and saw the image of a woman putting the bag inside her own handbag and walking away, police said.

Motorcycle theft

A man who parked his green 2006 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle in front of 300 Albany St. in Battery Park City at 2 p.m. Sun., May 11 returned at 3 p.m. and found it had been stolen, police said.

Van break-in

A man who parked his van in front of 47 Walker St. near the Tribeca Grand Hotel at 3 p.m. Tues., May 13 returned at 7 p.m. and found a door had been broken and his backpack with his MP3 player and credit cards were gone.
