Student stabbed An argument between two students outside University Neighborhood High School, 200 Monroe St. at the corner of Montgomery St. around 11 a.m. Tues., Jan. 19 ended with the stabbing of a student, 18, police said. Later, police arrested another student, 16, in connection with the incident.
The victim, identified by police only as a student in the school located in the Seward Park High School Annex building, was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a stab wound in his back and was listed in stable condition.
Police said the victim did not cooperate with the investigation, but later that day, Seventh Precinct detectives arrested the 16-year-old, Louis Reyes of W. 127th St. and charged him with felony assault.
Office fire Six people sustained minor injuries in a fire at 45 Broadway last Thurs., Jan. 14.
The fire broke out shortly before 6:30 p.m. on the second floor of the 32-story office tower, F.D.N.Y. spokesperson Scott Lapiedra said. It took 60 firefighters about an hour and a half to bring the blaze under control, he said.
One office worker was transported to New York Downtown Hospital with minor injuries, Lapiedra said. Five additional workers were injured but declined medical attention, he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
West St. closed briefly The N.Y.P.D. closed down the West Side Highway for at least half an hour last Sun., Jan. 17 while the bomb squad investigated a suspicious package found outside of 2 World Financial Center.
Police responded shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday after an unidentified person alerted a security guard about a green bag resting on a ledge in front of 2 World Financial Center, said N.Y.P.D. Detective Cheryl Crispin. The bag ended up containing only books and was not dangerous, and West St. reopened around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Crispin said.
