Demonstrators arrested
Police arrested 18 members of the New York City Housing Network at the intersection of Barclay St. and Broadway in front of City Hall Park at a housing demonstration on Tuesday morning, Nov. 9. The demonstrators blocked pedestrians and cars at the intersection and were charged with disorderly conduct, police said.
Seek bar brawler
Christian Fiorello, 34, who was arrested in connection with a 3:45 a.m. Tues., Nov. 9 assault in the Kenmare Lounge, 98 Kenmare St. near Centre St., was charged with assault at his Nov. 11 arraignment but failed to appear in court on Mon., Nov. 15, a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney said. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Fiorello was charged with hitting a man in the face with a bottle during an argument over a woman.
Soho crash injures three
A taxi that jumped a curb at 5:45 a.m. Sun., Nov. 14 smashed through the door of Café Habana, 17 Prince St. at Elizabeth St., knocking down three women who were standing just outside, police said. The victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries. There was no criminality involved and no summons was issued to the cab driver, police said.
Women muggers
A Manhattan woman, 27, told police she was walking east on Grand St., near Mercer St. around 5:27 p.m. Thurs., when two women asked her for directions. The victim obliged and walked on but the two women came from behind her, grabbed her bag and pepper sprayed her in the eyes, police said. The victim lost her credit cards, her Oregon driver’s license, $60 in U.S. currency and an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency, police said.
Rob food vendor
A food vendor in front of 75 Varick St., near Canal St. was filling a food order for two customers at 3:20 a.m. Fri., Nov. 12 when one of them grabbed him from behind, dragged him 10 ft. from his cart and punched him in the face, police said. The accomplice opened the food cart cash drawer, grabbed the money and both fled on foot east on Watts St. One of the thieves dropped his watch in the incident, police said. The vendor told police that one of the suspects had asked him for change of a $20 bill about 20 minutes before the robbery.
Truck burglary
A driver for ADT, the payroll and data service, parked his truck in front of 108 Wooster St. between Spring and Prince Sts. around 2 p.m. Fri., Nov. 12 and returned at 8:45 p.m. to find the side window broken and a laptop computer, a digital camera, a data tester and a few tools had been stolen, police said.
Second time caught
A security guard at J & R Music, 23 Park Row, spotted a familiar face of a man who walked into the place at 6 p.m. Fri., Nov. 12, took a Philips digital recorder from a display case and put it under his jacket, police said. The guard stopped the suspect, Ishmael Jimenez, 21, and found the missing item. Jimenez had been caught shoplifting in the store on Oct. 31 and signed a no trespass notice agreeing not to enter the place, police said. Consequently, he was charged with burglary, a felony, rather than larceny, a misdemeanor.
Ready-to-wear
A man walked into the Ralph Lauren boutique at 381 W. Broadway between Broome and Spring Sts. at 12:16 p.m. Sun., Nov. 14, took a black jacket valued at $1,498 from the display rack, put it on and fled, police said.
Lost at diner
A woman patron of Via dei Mille, the club at 357 W. Broadway between Broome and Grand Sts., put her bag on a chair at her table when she went to the dance around 5 p.m. Sat., Nov. 13. She discovered a while later that the bag with her wallet with credit cards and $15 in cash was gone. The victim discovered when she got home that several unauthorized charges were made at East End Bar, Footlocker, International News stand and Aldo, the boot and shoe boutique.
Bag gone
A woman, 26, who stopped for coffee at Starbucks, 471 Broadway near Grand St. around 8 p.m. Sat., Nov. 13 lost her bag to a thief, police said. She lost $200 in cash, an iPhone and credit cards, including one issued by a German bank.
Car gone
A Battery Park City woman, 44, parked her rented car near the northwest corner of Warren St, and River Terrace around 2 p.m. Sun., Nov. 14 and returned the next day at 7:30 a.m. to find it had been stolen. The victim had rented the 2010 Impala from an AVIS agency in Hyannis, Cape Cod.
