Sex attacker arrest

Police arrested a suspect, 15, on June 31 in connection with the June 27 beating and attempted rape of a woman in the laundry room of a residential complex in the Grand St. neighborhood. Law enforcement officials identified the suspect, whose image was recorded by a surveillance camera in the laundry room during the 5:30 p.m. incident, as Benjamin Brownlee, of Orange County, N.Y., who was visiting relatives in Manhattan.

Information phoned into the CrimeStoppers hotline after the surveillance camera images were released to the media led to the arrest of the suspect at his relatives’ home in the Kips Bay neighborhood on the East Side, police said.

The suspect, who at the time was wearing a red cast on his right forearm, had left the laundry room after having asked the victim for directions for the way out, according to police. He attacked the victim a few minutes later as she left the room but was interrupted and fled when a witness came upon the scene, police said.

He was charged with attempted rape, burglary and assault.

Campos Plaza murder

An argument between two half brothers in the playground of Campos Plaza in the East Village at 9:30 a.m. on June 30 ended in gunfire and the death of one of them, police said.

Police arrested the suspect, Milton Muller 28, of 90 Avenue D in the Jacob Riis Houses, after a short chase from the playground between Avenues C and D at E. 13th St.

The victim, Henry White, 32, of 1141 F.D.R. Dr. in the Riis Houses complex, was shot several times in the torso and was declared dead on arrival at Beth Israel Hospital.

Neighbors said the victim had bullied the suspect, known as “Little Man,” for years. Law enforcement sources said White had been arrested a few weeks ago while wearing a bulletproof vest on a charge of possession of crack.

Motorcycle fatal

The driver of a motorcycle lost control of the bike at about 1:40 a.m. Tues. July 5 on F.D.R. Dr. at E. 25th St. and slammed into a concrete wall and a light pole, police said. The victim, 58, whose name was not made public pending family notification, died at the scene, police said.
